From 63 personnel two weeks ago, 100 personnel of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 have contracted the coronavirus-disease as of Oct 1, 2020.

Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, said that nine more confirmed cases pushed the PRO-6 record to breach the 100-case mark.

Five of the additional cases are from the Negros Occidental Police PPO while two from Bacolod City PO.

Two non-uniformed personnel (NUP) have also contracted the virus.

Twenty-five of the 100 COVID-infected personnel are assigned to the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU).

Not far behind is Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) with 22; 13 each in Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO); 10 in Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO); 9 in PRO-6 headquarters; 6 NUPs; and 1 in Aklan Police Provincial Office (AkPPO).

Malong said that 63 infected personnel are now on quarantine while 36 have recovered and one died.

The lone fatality was an ICPO personnel who got infected and eventually died while on training in Laguna province.

54 cases are still active.

Given that the region’s police force has a strength of around 13,000, the infection rate is deemed low.

While the rate is at around 0.77 percent, Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, PRO-6 spokesperson, said they are strictly practicing the minimum health standard to ensure that the number will not shoot up further.

As of Wednesday evening, 5,990 PNP personnel nationwide were infected. Of these, 1189 are active, the PNP said.

PRO-6’s 100 confirmed cases are a mere 1.68 percent of the total number of infected PNP personnel.
