COVID-19 tally in WV nears 5k-mark

The total number of confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the region is nearing the 5,000-case mark as the Department of Health-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-WV CHD) reported 141 new cases on Sept 2, 2020.

The regional COVID-19 total now stands at 4,983, with 2,373 active cases.

Local cases make up the bulk of the latest batch of confirmed cases with 131 new cases.

Iloilo City topped the list with 52 new local cases, followed by Negros Occidental province with 44, Bacolod City with 26, Capiz with 5, and Iloilo province with 4 new local cases.

Two cases are Locally Stranded Individuals, both 20-year-old females from Silay City, Negros Occidental (WV Patient Nos. 4907 and 4908).

The remaining case is an Authorized Person Outside of Residence (APOR), a 24-year-old male from La Paz, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 4870).

Two other cases are still being verified – a 38-year-old male (WV Patient No. 4969) and 90-year-old male (WV Patient No. 4970), who are both identified only as residents of Bacolod City.

Eight patients were also reported as “repeat cases” or those who again tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease.

A total of 1,114 lab test results were released by the DOH-WV CHD on Sept. 2, with 965 tests showing negative results.

The DOH-WV CHD also reported 131 new recovered COVID-19 cases, increasing the total number of recoveries to 2,530 as of Sept. 2.

Iloilo City reported the most recoveries on Sept. 2 with 40, followed by Bacolod City with 29, Iloilo and Negros Occidental provinces with 22 each, Capiz province with 14, Guimaras province with 3, and Antique with 1 new recovery.

Two new deaths were also reported, a 60-year-old female from City Proper, Iloilo City (WV Patient No. 4543) and a 63-year-old male from Jamindan, Capiz (WV Patient No. 4614).

The total number of COVID-19 deaths in the region as of Sept. 2 is now at 80.
