Drug suspect hurt in skirmish with cops

A man was wounded after he allegedly opened fire at police operatives in a buy-bust at Barangay Bata, Bacolod City Wednesday, which resulted in the confiscation of P272,000 worth of suspected shabu.

BACOLOD City – A suspected drug peddler was wounded after allegedly trading shots with the police in a buy-bust at a residential village in Barangay Bata here last Wednesday.

Agsam was wounded when police retaliated after he allegedly fired his firearm at them.

Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, public information officer of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said Agsam was hit in his left leg and was taken to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.

Recovered during the operation were 22 sachets of suspected shabu, the P1,000 marked money, P1,200, a .38 caliber loaded with five live ammunition, a holster, a belt bag, and van.

The seized drugs weighed 40 grams and valued at P272,000

Based on the parameters of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), a drug suspect who yields more than 10 grams of suspected shabu can be considered a High-Value Target, Pico said.

Pico also said that Agsam was identified as the No.1 most wanted person of Police Station 4. He has a standing arrest warrant for murder, the BCPO spokesperson added.

Pico said drug charges are being readied against the suspect, who is now under hospital arrest.

He also said that Agsam will be subjected to swab test amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID)-19 pandemic.
