Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Undersecretary Ceferino S. Rodolfo of the Industry Development and Investment Promotions Group paid a courtesy visit to the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) during his official visit to Malaysia on January 8 and 9.

Organized by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC)-Kuala Lumpur led by Commercial Counsellor Ms. Norjamin Delos Reyes, the visit focused on exploring new opportunities that are aimed at enhancing trade and investment between the Philippines and Malaysia.

During the discussion, Undersecretary Rodolfo highlighted avenues for collaboration with companies in the electrical and electronics (E&E) and semiconductor industries, encouraging them to expand their operations in our country.

In addition, Undersecretary Rodolfo received a warm welcome from MICCI President Ms. Christina Tee. Also present at the meeting were MICCI Executive Director Mr. Lee Han Ling, and MICCI Manager Ms. Harpreet Kaur, alongside RBC Water Sdn. Bhd. Deputy COO Mr. Neethia Raj and ROHAS-EUCO Industries Business Development Manager Ms. Janet Tong.

Among the participants, Rohas-Euco Industries Berhad (REI) is a global leader in power, telecommunication, water, and steel fabrication. The company is exploring opportunities in the Philippines, particularly in the transmission tower projects.

MICCI President Tee emphasized the E-commerce Chapter’s role in highlighting the importance of mentorship and scaling up businesses. “Micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) entrepreneurs often operate with a small business mindset. Our goal is to inspire them to think big, achieve greater goals, and leverage opportunities to expand,” she explained.

On behalf of MICCI, she offers its vast experience and networks to connect MSMEs with larger Malaysian companies for potential partnerships and growth opportunities.

Meanwhile, MICCI Executive Director Mr. Lee noted Malaysia’s strong capabilities in logistics and warehousing. He highlighted the significant potential for collaboration between Philippine and Malaysian companies in these sectors.

President Tee similarly emphasized the growth potential for Malaysian export-oriented companies to expand into the Philippines. She identified three essential requirements for successful expansion: access to materials, availability of labor, and partnerships with local companies.

Undersecretary Rodolfo closed the meeting by inviting MICCI members from the manufacturing supply chain, construction, and E&E sectors to participate in the 2025 Investment Mission to the Philippines. Scheduled for the end of the year, this mission aligns with the Philippines’ assumption of the ASEAN chairmanship following Malaysia’s tenure.

“Our visit to MICCI is a great opportunity to connect with Malaysian businesses and explore ways we can grow together,” said Undersecretary Rodolfo.

“The Philippines offers a dynamic and competitive environment for investment, particularly in sectors like electronics, semiconductors, manufacturing, and construction. We’re excited to invite Malaysian companies to see this potential firsthand through initiatives like the 2025 Investment Mission to the Philippines. Strengthening these partnerships goes beyond numbers; it’s about creating shared opportunities, fostering innovation, and building lasting connections that benefit both our economies,” he added.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing strong interest in further deepening the economic ties between the Philippines and Malaysia.
