BACOLOD City – Mayor Marvin Malacon of EB Magalona, Negros Occidental during the weekend assured justice for the family of a student who died in a tragic vehicular accident.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to the bereaved family of Kevin Liscano, a 15-year-old Grade 10 student of E. B. Magalona National High School who died in a tragic vehicular accident along our town’s national highway Thursday,” Malacon said.
Malacon further said, “We are deeply saddened by this senseless tragedy involving a young man who had a bright future ahead of him.”
In a CCTV camera footage acquired by the mayor, it was seen that the victim together with other students were crossing the pedestrian lane at the signal of the traffic enforcer.
The CCTV showed that the truck driven by the suspect was speeding and ran over the teener.
“We strongly condemn the driver of the hauler truck and his reckless driving that snatched the life of our young Saraviahanon in an instant,” Malacon further said.
The mayor met with the victim’s parents and assured them that he will personally help to see to it that they will get justice.
He also extended an initial cash assistance of P50,000 to the family for the burial needs of their son.
This is aside from the funeral assistance that the Municipal Government and the Office of Congressman Kiko Benitez usually give to our constituents, Malacon said.
The mayor also said that he will shoulder the travel expenses of some Liscano family members who are working outside Negros Occidental, so they can go home to Barangay Cudangdang before Kevin is laid to rest.
He also offered to finance other funeral expenses as well as incidental fees arising from the legal proceedings of the case.
