A German national has been incarcerated after being taken to court by a former lover for charges of violence against women and children (VAWC).
The man, known as Alias Robert, 51, currently residing in Barangay PHHC Blk 22, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, was apprehended at nearby Guzman Jesena St., Mandurriao at approximately 3:09 p.m. on February 26.
Members of the Iloilo City Police Station 5 arrested the suspect under an arrest warrant for violations of Section 5(a) and Section 5(i) of Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004), docketed under Criminal Case Numbers 24-90930 and 24-90931.
Section 5(a) pertains to “Causing physical harm to the woman or her child,” while Section 5(i) relates to “Threatening to deprive or actually depriving the woman or her child of custody to her/his family.”
Judge Elijo Sharon Ronzales Herrera-Bellones of the Regional Trial Court 6 (RTC-6) Branch 27, Iloilo City issued the arrest warrant on February 21, 2024.
The bail bond for the violation of Section 5(i) is set at P72,000, while for Section 5(a), it is recommended at P2,000.
Captain Val Cambel, chief of ICPS5, reported that the suspect was visiting a property rental business in the area when the police detained him.
A former fiancée has accused the suspect of physical abuse.
Robert is currently in a relationship with another Filipina woman, who is five months pregnant.
