Guimaras butchered livestock up by 5.72 percent

Guimaras’ livestock butchered in slaughterhouses increased by 5.72 percent in 2022 after rising to 16,123 heads from 15,250 heads in 2021.

Majority of the slaughtered animals were carabao, accounting for 82.86 percent of the total livestock slaughtered.

Slaughtered hog increased by 7.06 percent, from 11,920 heads in 2021 to with 12,762 heads in 2022, or an additional 842 hogs.

“Next is Cattle which also increased by 0.06 percent from 3,295 to 3,297 in 2022,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.

Losare also mentioned that all livestock animals except goat posted increases, wherein carabao recorded a significant growth of 82.86 percent from 35 heads in 2021 to 64 heads in 2022.

“Data also showed that there was no record of goat butchered in the years 2021-2022,” Losare said.

Comparing the data from 2018-2022, when the COVID-19 virus hit the province in 2019, the number of animals slaughtered in abattoirs also decreased from 16,195 heads in 2018, and consistently dropped by -7.21 and -9.40 percent or 15,027 and 13,615 heads in 2019 and 2022, respectively.

“The number of slaughtered animals in slaughterhouses constantly showed increment in 2021 and 2022 with 15,250 and 16,123 heads, correspondingly as the province slowly moved forward from the pandemic brought by the COVID-19 virus,” Losare said.
