A farmer from Guimbal, Iloilo was believed to have committed suicide early morning of Nov 6, 2020.

The 33-year-old man allegedly hanged himself from a coconut tree some 50 meters away from their house at Barangay Cabubugan.

Lieutenant Nelson Caro, Guimbal police chief, said a relative saw the victim’s body around 6 am Friday.

Caro said the family has yet to reveal what could have triggered the suicide.

“But we heard hay he had two previous attempts. Even if he’s facing what his family deemed as a small problem, he will attempt suicide,” Caro said.

The victim’s family believed that there was no foul play on the incident, investigators said.

The latest suicide incident in Iloilo province was reported on Oct 22.

With the Guimbal incident, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) said 77 suicide happened in the province in 2020.

Earlier, the Iloilo police put up Pag-ulikid Desk to address rising suicide cases.

The IPPO has noted that majority of the victims are male. Most of them were 17 to 30 years old.
