LEEO employee, boy latest COVID fatalities in Iloilo City

A ten-year-old boy from Rizal Ibarra who tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and an employee of the Local Economic Enterprise Office (LEEO) who is a suspected COVID-19 patient are the two new fatalities in Iloilo City.

Mayor Jerry Treñas confirmed on Monday that a 10-year-old boy from Rizal Ibarra, City Proper died from the disease.

The boy was among the four new additional cases recorded in the city on Monday. The other new cases were recorded in Aguinaldo, LaPaz, East Timawa, Molo; and Sta. Filomena, Arevalo.

Meanwhile, an LEEO employee who was assigned to the Jaro Small Market died on Sunday.

“I was informed that an LEEO employee assigned as a collector at the Jaro Small Market expired on Sunday afternoon,” he said.

According to the mayor, the patient exhibited signs and symptoms of COVID-19 but he did not submit himself to a health facility.

He was brought to a hospital but passed away on Sunday, Treñas said.

Following his death, the mayor said he imposed the three-day lockdown on Jaro Small Market starting Sunday to give way to disinfection and contact tracing.

“Considering he exhibited Covid-19 symptoms, we closed down the Jaro Small Market para makaconduct contact tracing, disinfection, kag swabbing sang iya mga close contacts,” the mayor added.

Meanwhile, swab results of the patient remains pending at the Western Visayas Medical Center Sub National Laboratory (WVMC-SNL). (ERS)
