BACOLOD City – Four persons were arrested hours after they allegedly mauled to death a drunk man in front of a convenience store in Barangay Poblacion, Bago City, Negros Occidental yesterday.
Police identified the victim as Roggie Mar Tiolo, 47, of Pulupandan town.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, city police chief, said Tiolo and his brother were drinking liquor when a group of persons on board a tricycle arrived at the convenience store past 3 a.m.
Malong said Tiolo might have uttered some words due to drunkenness that probably irked the four persons, prompting the latter to gang up on him.
The victim’s brother pacified the commotion, and the suspects fled.
Tiolo was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
Malong said they have no idea if the suspects were also drunk when the incident happened.
At 9:30 a.m, police arrested the suspects identified as Arangote brothers Edmark, 22, and Jed, 43, all residents of Barangay Lag-asan, and their cousins Dennis Delos Reyes (also of Lag-asan), 33, and Novi Vagallon, 36, of Silay City.
Malong said the suspects were arrested in a hot pursuit operation in Barangay Lag-asan after they were identified by some witnesses.
Malong said they are looking into drunkenness as the motive in the incident.
Homicide charges will be filed against the four suspects.
