Man shoots cousins over petty quarrel

A petty quarrel ended in death after a man shot his cousin evening of Aug 12, 2020 in San Dionisio, Iloilo.

The suspect, Sandy Mar Guillermo, a resident of Barangay Mandu-awak, San Dionisio, fled after the incident.

Police Captain Rene del Castillo, San Dionisio police chief, said a manhunt operation was launched against the suspect in the town’s mountainous villages but Guillermo remains at large, as of this writing.

Investigation indicated that Guillermo and the victim, Hermogenes Agnes, had an argument after the latter admonished their nephews.

Del Castillo said the suspect may have misinterpreted the admonition and engaged the victim in a verbal tussle.

At the height of their argument, the suspect left the area with a warning that he will return.

Del Castillo said Agnes did not take the caution seriously. Instead, he prepared and left for work on board his motorcycle.

The victim, a caretaker of a housing project in San Dionisio, was driving his motorcycle when the suspect shot him.

Agnes was hit on the abdomen and was brought to Sara District Hospital. He was later transferred to Iloilo Mission Hospital for further treatment.

Del Castillo said the duo’s family members are working for Guillermo to voluntarily surrender.
