Man stabbed dead, brother injured

BACOLOD City – A man died while his elder brother was wounded after they were stabbed inside a nipa hut at Barangay Cartagena, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental Thursday night.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Necerato Sabando Jr., city police chief, identified the fatality as Joemar Salibio, 35, of Barangay Bulata, Cauayan town.

Wounded was his brother Joemart Salibio, 38.

Armed with a knife, 47-year-old Nilo Galanido stormed the nipa hut and allegedly stabbed Joemar who was sleeping around 7:30 p.m., Sabando said.

Galanido then chased Joemart who was having dinner and also reportedly stabbed him, hitting his right arm, the police chief added.

Both victims were taken to a hospital, where Joemar was declared dead due to a stab wound on his left thigh.

Galanido fled but he was later arrested in Cauayan town.

Sabando said they are looking into grudge as motive behind the incident.

He said Galanido will be facing murder and attempted homicide charges.
