MGen welcomes new CEO Emmanuel V. Rubio

Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen), the power generation investment arm of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), has appointed Emmanuel V. Rubio as its new president and chief executive officer, effective today.

Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman and CEO of Meralco, stated that Rubio’s appointment is a strategic move as MGen seeks to capitalize on growth opportunities that will deliver long-term value to the company, local communities, and the national economy.

“We are eager to leverage his fresh perspectives and innovative ideas as we strive for MGen to be a dependable partner in achieving inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” Pangilinan said.

Rubio brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously served as president and CEO of Aboitiz Power Corp., where he led the company’s shift towards sustainable energy sources and significantly expanded its renewable energy portfolio.

His tenure at AboitizPower was distinguished by notable achievements and strategic initiatives across various executive roles within the organization.

At MGen, Rubio will oversee the company’s strategic plans in line with governmental efforts to enhance energy security and meet global sustainability goals.

His priorities include expanding MGen’s footprint in the renewable energy sector, developing an integrated liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, and adding 1,500 megawatts of renewable energy capacity.

Rubio succeeds Jaime T. Azurin, who will continue to serve as president of Global Business Power Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of MGen that operates power plants in Iloilo City.
