MORE Power denies endorsing anti-vaccine interview

MORE Electric and Power Co., Iloilo City’s power distributor, denied endorsing an interview by local talk show “Mug Session” that was tagged as disinformation by the Department of Health (DOH).

The interview focused on the claim of a medical practitioner that sought to discredit the efficacy and necessity of COVID-19 vaccines.

MORE Power’s logo appeared in the backdrop of the talk show being an advertiser, which led to speculations that the distribution utility endorsed the interview.

In a statement, MORE Power said it is not in any way associated on the wrong information tagged as fake news by the Department of Health particularly published on a local talkshow “Mug Session.”

“It has to be cleared that the inclusion of our logo on the program’s backdrop does not necessarily imply our endorsement of the views expressed by them.  Plain and simple, MORE Power is just an advertiser and therefore has no control over the nature and content of the said program,” it added.

While it tries to support various sectors, including public information programs hosted by the local media to aid them through this current crisis, “we take no responsibility for, and will not be liable for, any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether issued by them or by their program guests.”

“Any reliance by its viewers place on such information is therefore strictly at their own risk.”

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the DOH debunked the claims of the doctor interviewee on the following points:

-COVID-19 vaccines do not contain live or active SARS-COV-2 virus, which causes the disease, nor will it weaken the body’s immunity. In fact, vaccines will strengthen the body’s immune system by producing anti-bodies that will fight off the virus;

-there is no evidence that the spike protein of mRNA vaccines like the one manufactured by Moderna can infect and endanger the body;

-there is no sufficient proof that COVID-19 vaccines cause heart attacks or affect the brain.
