More than 82,000 persons in WV under Priority ‘A’ group receive COVID-19 jabs

A total of 82,693 individuals in Western Visayas under priority group “A” have received their COVID-19 jabs as of May 9,2021, according to the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH WV CHD).

In a virtual press briefer on Monday, Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, Medical Officer for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Disease, said 72,510 received Sinovac vaccine while 10,183 received AstraZeneca jabs.

“Out of the 82,693 individuals, 19,180 are from Iloilo province; 15,542 from Iloilo City; Negros Occidental (13,898); Aklan (8,935); Guimaras (2,927); Bacolod City (7,930); Capiz (7,219) and Antique (7,062),” Te reported.

Priority A group includes subsector A1 (medical frontliners), A2 (senior citizens) and A3 (adults with comorbidities).

A total of 69,207 medical frontliners under A1 received their first dose of COVID-19 jabs while 23,369 completed their two doses.

Health workers who were inoculated with Sinovac totaled to 59,186 while 10,021 were vaccinated using AstraZeneca doses.

Meanwhile, senior citizens in the region who availed their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine under the A2 priority group totaled to 11,106 out of the 774,987 elderlies in the masterlist.

As to adults under A3 group, 2,381 were inoculated with COVID-19 jabs.

About 1.283 million individuals in Western Visayas were included in the master list of the health department for the free COVID-19 vaccines.

They include 129,165 health care workers (A1); 774,987 senior citizens (A2); 58,798 adults with comorbidities (A3); 11,668 uniformed personnel and essential workers (A4); and 308,406, indigent people.

On Tuesday, additional COVID-19 vaccines from the national government arrived at the Iloilo International airport – 7,960 vials of AstraZeneca and 80 vials of Sinovac. The vaccines were turned over to the DOH-6 for proper allocation and distribution.

Western Visayas has been identified as among the areas of expansion for the Covid-19 vaccination of the national government.

In the weekly Cabinet meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte aired Monday night, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez said the strategy aims to inoculate more than 58 million Filipinos which is 70 percent of the 83.8 million adult population.

Metro Manila, 6 Luzon provinces, Metro Davao, and Metro Cebu are proposed ‘focus areas’ for vaccination.

Based on the data from the DOH-6, the average daily attack rate in the region is at 3.19 as of May 9, maintaining its low-risk classification.

On Tuesday, Region 6 logged 385 additional cases with 446 recoveries and 11 deaths.

Hence, the total registered Covid-19 cases in the region climbed to 39,113 with 5,316 active cases, 32,842 recoveries, and 948 deaths.  (ERS)
