A nursing student and a seafarer were arrested following a police anti-narcotics operation on Sept 20, 2020 in Leganes, Iloilo.

Members of Arevalo Police Station identified the suspects as nursing student John Winstone Porras, 26, a resident of Barangay Balabago, Jaro, Iloilo City, and seaman Fritz Simbre, 37, of Poblacion, Leganes.

Lieutenant Andres Sumes, Jr. of Arevalo Police Station chief, said their operation started at Barangay Sooc, Arevalo.

A police undercover agent allegedly asked Porras to buy P8,500 worth of shabu, but the suspect’s stock on hand was not enough.

He later led the police poseur buyer to Simbre’s house in Leganes town where he was arrested.

Porras yielded 10 sachets of suspected shabu and the P8,500 marked money.

Two sachets of suspected shabu were taken from Simbre.

A village official claimed they did not monitor Simbre to be using or trading illegal drugs, thus, he was not put on the drugs watchlist.

But Simbre claimed he had been a drug user but stopped only to resume again. He denied selling drugs.

The two suspects are now detained and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
