One killed, 2 wounded in electrocution incidents

ROXAS CITY, Capiz— A fisherman died while two others were injured when they accidentally touched a live electrical wire Monday evening in a fishpond at Barangay Bantigue, Panay, Capiz.

Police identified the fatality as Jing Bermejo, 40, of Barangay Dulangan, Pilar, Capiz.

Bermejo’s fellow fishermen identified as Gerald Belalo, 32; and Jenard Becas, 19, both of Barangay Bantigue, Panay suffered minor injuries.

Investigation by the Panay PNP indicated that the three were walking beside the fishpond owned by Ervin ‘’Dodoy’’ Bulquerin when Becas accidentally touched a live duplex wire that caused his electrocution.

The strong current also electrocuted Bermejo and Belalo.

Bermejo and Belalo were immediately taken to Bailan District Hospital in Pontevedra, Capiz, while Becas refused to be treated because he only sustained minor injuries.

Bermejo was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician while Belalo is presently confined in the same hospital here.

Bermejo’s wife asked the fishpond owner for financial assistance for her husband’s burial.
