The Petro Gazz Angels outlasted the stacked F2 Logistics Cargo Movers in just four sets, 25-14, 22-25. 25-20, 25-19, to set up a highly-anticipated semifinals clash against the Cignal HD Spikers in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

Petro Gazz’s dynamic duo of Gretchel Soltones and Jonah Sabete led their crisp offensive run and combined for 40 huge points against the star-studded middle-blockers of F2.

Soltones top-scored her team with 22 points while Sabete added 18 more which boosted their momentum in the last two sets despite falling in the second period.

It was one of the most flawless offensive outings for Petro Gazz so far in the tournament after finishing the match with a high offensive output rating from 30 excellent sets.

Aside from Soltones and Sabete, veteran and former national team staple Aiza Maizo-Pontillas turned back the hands of time and contributed 18 points that put the crowd to their feet whenever she scored on an uncontested spike.

The trio of Kim Kianna Dy, Aby Maraño, and Majoy Baron tried to lift the Cargo Movers’ spirits in the third set with their own offensive run but a Soltones back-to-back hitter deuce spoiled their chances of getting back the momentum.

Petro Gazz’s huge win will put them next against the surging HD Spikers who are yet to taste defeat in the tournament in five played matches.

Meanwhile, in the other semifinals bracket, the Choco Mucho Flying Titans will square off against Alyssa Valdez and the Creamline Cool Smashers on Friday at 5 PM.
