MANILA – The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) unveiled the “SANDAAN – Celebrating 100 Years of Philippine Cinema”, a special commemorative stamp to mark the100 years of cinema in the Philippines.
The commemorative stamp depicts the logo of SANDAAN appearing on a stylized movie ticket, highlighting the dates 1919-2019.
Also, the limited copies of the souvenir stamp sheet features acclaimed director and producer Jose Nepomuceno, considered by many as the “Father of Philippine Movies”. His film Dalagang Bukid was the first Filipino-produced silent film, starring Atang de la Rama and Marcellano Ilagan. Dalagang Bukid was released on Sept 12, 1919.
The stamps were presented by PHLPost Business Lines Manager Maximo Sta. Maria III to FDCP Chairperson Liza-Diño Seguerra, Department of Tourism Assistant Secretary Roberto Alabado III, ABS-CBN COO of Broadcast and Director Laurenti Dyogi.
The FDCP will lead the year-long celebration of the Centennial Year of Philippine Cinema, which begins on Sept 12, 2019 and will culminate on Sept 11, 2020, per Presidential Proclamation No. 622 Series of 2018.
PHLPost has printed 30,000 pieces of the commemorative stamp and 5,000 pieces of the limited copies of the souvenir sheets. The stamp is being sold at P12.00 each and P55 for the souvenir sheet. Graphic artist Rodine Teodoro designed the stamps.
Stamps and Official First Day Covers of “100 Years of Philippine Cinema” will be available at the Philatelic Counter, Manila Central Post Office, all Mega Manila Post Offices, Postal Area 4, San Pablo, Postal Area 5, Mandaue, Postal Area 7, Davao, and Postal Area 8, Cagayan de Oro.
