BACOLOD City – Police are probing if the death of an alleged pimp, who was shot by an unidentified perpetrator at Purok Lampirong, Barangay 2 here, is connected to the killing of an alleged commercial sex worker last week in the same area.

Police Lieutenant Jonito Pastrana, head of Police Station 2, identified the victim as Aljun Rey Jarabilo, 22.

Pastrana said Jarabilo was riding a bike when the perpetrator possibly waited for him to pass by the area or tailed him.

Jarabilo was shot at close range, according to Pastrana. He was taken to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital where he later passed away due to a lone gunshot wound in the head.

Police recovered from the scene an empty shell of .45-caliber ammunition.

Pastrana said Jarabilo’s sister-in-law identified him and told the police that the victim was a jeepney dispatcher at the Central Market and could usually be seen at the public plaza.

Pastrana said they are facing a blank wall in the investigation as the area has no closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera and is secluded especially during night time.

Police conducted a background check on the victim.

Pastrana said they learned from Jarabilo’s sister-in-law that the victim allegedly knew Renalyn Maming, 23, of La Castellana, Negros Occidental, but they were not that close.

Maming, an alleged commercial sex worker, was gunned down by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants at the same area on Nov 3.

Pastrana said they will conduct cross matching of the recovered ammunition shells from the two incidents to check if these were fired using the same firearm.

Meanwhile, police earlier said they have a person of interest in the murder of Maming and were looking into grudges as possible motive, citing previous theft records of Maming.

Following these incidents, Pastrana said police will be deployed to the area to prevent the recurrence of the incident, aside from the continued mobile patrol.
