ProfEd works on curriculum revision and conversion of its Master of Education program

The Division of Professional Education conducted a Planning and Training Workshop for the MAEd and the MEd programs through zoom on February 22-23 and the face-to-face session on February 24, 2021, at the UPV Little Theater, UP Visayas, Iloilo City campus.

In his Opening Message on the first day of the planning session, Dr. Philip Ian P. Padilla, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, discussed the plans and directions for the Professional Education program of UP Visayas.

Various speakers shared insights and discussed topics and matters significant to converting the Med program into the Master of Arts for education.

Dr. Vivian A. Topor, Chair of the Division of Professional Education, discussed the rationalization of API 2020-2021, which has the following objectives:

  • to develop criteria and parameter as bases for curriculum review of the MEd program;
  • to develop a working framework for the advancement of MEd program into MAEd program;
  • to train and retrain the curriculum revision committee on the basics of curriculum development and evaluation through the series of actual planning, training, and workshops;
  • and present a revised curriculum of the MEd program in all major fields and/or propose a new MAEd program framework.

Previous and existing revision initiatives and framework – 1 were presented by Dr. Lourdes A. Zamora, former Principal, UPHSI Division of Professional Education.

Dr. Edizon A. Fermin, Co-Chair, Technical Panel for Teacher Education Commission on Higher Education, gave a Review on the Role of the Foundation of Education Courses in Teacher Education.

He likewise reiterated that the Philippine Education Program (teachers) is hopeful that “competent, committed, and compassionate, world-class professionals who are designers, facilitators, advocates, and leaders of 21st-century learning are change agents for the transformation of learners into peace-loving, culturally-responsive, ecologically-sensitive.”

Dr. Jose V. Camacho, JR. UPLB Chancellor and former Director of the Graduate School of UP Los Banos talked about the CHED Memo 15 s. 2019: Policies, Guidelines, and Standards for Graduate Programs.

A presentation of AQRF and AUN-QA Standards was done by Prof. Steve P. Janagap, Assistant to the Chancellor for Academic Assessment and Development; while Dr. Nathaniel C. Anasco, Professor 5 and Director of the Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanology, reiterated the Previous/Existing Revision Initiatives and Framework.

Dr. John C. Barrios, former Division Chair, Division of Professional Education, talked about Previous/Existing Revision Initiatives and Framework – 2.

UPV Chancellor Clement C. Camposano, himself a faculty member of the UP Diliman College of Education, discussed the Perspectives, Practices, and Insights on the Implementation of Foundations of Education courses in the Graduate Program at UP Diliman – College of Education.
