PSA assures safe conduct of survey

PSA hired data collectors observe social distancing in the conduct of survey as one of the protocols in preventing COVID-19.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) assured the safety of enumerators and respondents during the conduct of the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (2020 CPH) in September.

In a press statement, PSA-Region 6 said more than 100,000 enumerators and census supervisors will conduct the census all over the country.

In Western Visayas, 9,819 enumerators and census supervisors will undertake the survey.

The enumerators will follow health and safety protocols such as wearing of face masks, physical distancing and adherence to government health protocols.

Census interviews will last for only 15 to 30 minutes per household.

The 2020 CPH aims to provide government executives and policy makers up-to-date information on population and housing that contributes to social and economic development plans, policies, projects, and programs.

The results of the census will also be used to develop key strategies for population management. The results will also be beneficial to businesses, industries and non-profit organizations, including research and academic institutions.

The 2020 CPH starting Sept 1, 2020 will be the 15th Census of Population and 7th Census of Housing.

Among the data to be gathered are sex, age, marital status, education, religion, ethnicity, disability, occupation, and records of birth and death. Information on main sources of water, electricity, fuel resources, housing units, garbage disposal, toilet facility, ICT devices, vehicles, and internet access will also be collected.

There are several ways to participate in the census – face-to-face interview, use of Self-Administered Questionnaire (SAQ), over-the-phone interview or Paper-Assisted Telephone Interview (PATI), or the Computer-Assisted Web Interview (CAWI).

PSA assures the public that all responses to the 2020 CPH are confidential, as provided by Section 26 of Republic Act No. 10625 and Section 8 of Republic Act No. 10173 or the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

PSA will only release aggregated information from the census in the form of summaries or statistical tables.

No data or tabulation may be produced to identify any household nor any individual.
