The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Guimaras Provincial Statistics Office is now ready to assess the Guimaras’ economic activities through the upcoming 2022 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) on April 17 to May 19, 2023.
The annual survey will collect and generate information on the levels, structure, performance, and trends of economic activities of the formal sector of the economy for the year 2022.
The survey results will serve as inputs to national, regional, and provincial product accounts, formulating plans, policies, and project monitoring.
“The survey also aims to determine and compare regional economic structures and performances and analyze the performance and contribution of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to the total economy,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
Losare also cited that the data items on the survey to be collected are the General Information about the establishment; Economic Activity; Legal and Economic Organization; Employment; Revenue; Sales from e-commerce transactions; Subsidies received from the government; Expenses; Capital expenditures, and the book value of assets; Total Assets; Capacity Utilization; and Inventory.
“As part of our preparation for the 2022 ASPBI, we actively participated in the 3-day training on March 21-23, 2023, to capacitate the staff in data generation through Paper Aided Personal Interviews (PAPI) if the pre-identified sample establishments may opt to undergo a direct interview, or may accomplish the survey questionnaires, and for collection by PSA trained staff within the specified period or may prefer to access and accomplish the online questionnaires as an alternative method in complying the ASPBI forms,” Losare said.
All the establishments in the province belonging to the following sectors are on a certainty or 100% basis: Mining and Quarrying (Sector B); Electricity, Gas, Steam, and Air Conditioning Supply (Sector D); Certainty industries; Business Process Management (BPM) industries except for selected industries under Information and Communication (Sector J); Priority samples of the Quarterly Survey of Philippine Business and Industry; all samples of Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries; and establishments with total employment of 100 and over.
“The 7.7% economic growth of Guimaras in 2021, released in December 2022, is very hard to sustain and very challenging for the Local Chief Executives of Guimaras and the provision of comprehensive and reliable 2022 ASPBI data is very crucial to depict the growth and the picture of the province’s economy,” Losare said.
“We are urging for the support and cooperation of the sample establishments by providing reliable data to achieve the objectives of the 2022 ASPBI,” she added.
Losare guaranteed that all information collected from the sample establishments owner during the survey will be treated as highly confidential and shall not be used for taxation, investigation, or regulation as provided under Article 55 of Republic Act 10625 or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013.
