BACOLOD City – The remains of another alleged member of the New People’s Army (NPA) were discovered by the Army’s 62nd Infantry Batallion (IB) last Monday, following two clashes in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Saturday, Oct. 29.

Brigadier General Inocencio Pasaporte, commander of 303rd Infantry Brigade (IBde), identified the slain rebel as Marlon alias “Max” Albino, an alleged member of Central Negros (CN) 1, and a resident of Barangay Trinidad.

Albino’s remains were discovered in Barangay Buenavista, a day after the cadaver of Michael “Raymond” Asuncion was also found in the said village on Oct. 30.

The clashes in the city first erupted in Barangay Planas after the 62nd IB responded to a report regarding the alleged extortion activities of the NPA in the said village amid their disaster response operations in relation to Tropical Storm “Paeng.”

Pasaporte believed that both have been killed in the second encounter in Barangay Buenavista.

Their remains were already claimed by their respective families, according to Pasaporte.

Aside from these clashes, the 62nd IB also engaged in another encounter with the NPA rebels in Barangay Magsaysay on Oct. 31.

Pasaporte said that no evacuation in relation to the encounter was conducted, as they assured the residents of their safety.

Meanwhile, Mayor Filomeno Reyes, in a statement, assured the people of Guihulngan that “everything is under control by the law enforcement agencies.”

Reyes said that the Army and the police are well-prepared and highly equipped to handle the situation.
