The ongoing construction of the revetment wall at Calajunan Creek in Arevalo, Iloilo City, undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) Iloilo City District Engineering Office, is already more than halfway done.
The 430-meter structure with approaches amounting to ₱54.2 million is expected to be completed before this year ends.
Citing from the report of District Engineer Cesar M. Hipona Jr., DPWH Regional Director Nerie D. Bueno said the soon-to-be-completed project would primarily protect the riverbanks from erosion and degradation.
“With the near completion of the revetment wall along Calajunan Creek in Arevalo, erosion and degradation of the riverbanks will be mitigated. We expedite this project to ensure the safety of the people along the creek,” RD Bueno explained.
Likewise, DE Hipona said that once completed, the revetment wall will help protect the lives of people and animals living along the creek from major floods during heavy storms.
“We quickly respond for the completion of this project as we prioritize the safety and protection of the residents against floods during natural disasters,” DE Hipona said.
