BACOLOD City – The cities of Sagay and Bago in Neros Occidental cancelled their fiesta celebrations this summer due to the threats of Coronavirus Diseases 2019 (Covid-19).

Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon III issued Executive Order No. 005-AOM cancelling the 24th Sinigayan Festival celebration on March 14-19, 2020.

Marañon cited the Department of Health advisory issued by Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque saying that “with the ongoing threat of the spread of the novel corona virus ( Covid 19), the DOH urges the public to avoid  attending, participating in and organizing events that draw a huge number of attendees.”

The DOH likewise recommended the cancellation of planned big events or mass gathering until further advise, the EO added.

Marañon also said that “we may miss the glitter and gaiety of the Sinigayan Festival, however, it is necessary to minimize, if not eliminate, the risk of contracting the virus.”

Earlier, Bago City Mayor Nicolas Yulo also cancelled the fiesta celebration of the city that was supposed to start Feb 11.
