Task force vs spaghetti wires reconstituted

The Iloilo City government re-formed a task force that will handle unsightly utility wires or the so-called spaghetti wires.

Task Force Alambre was reconstituted via Executive Order No. 145-2020 which Mayor Jerry Treñas signed Sept 11, 2020.

According to the EO, the city “has long been confronted with dangling/sagging and inactive cables. electric wires and the like of electric, telephone and cable companies.”

These wires and cables are unsightly and hinders the beautification as well as the improvement of the city apart from posing threats and dangers to pedestrians and motor vehicles.

There is a need for the re-bundling, fixing and tensioning in order to straighten and arrange the wirings so as not to obstruct and pose danger to pedestrians and motor vehicles,” the order added.

With Treñas as chairman, the task force is also composed of Executive Assistant for Power Randy Pastolero as vice chair, and Engr. Marcelino Umahag of the City Engineer’s Office and representatives from PLDT Inc., Sky Cable Corp, Globe Telecom Inc, Cable Star Inc, Bayan Telecommunications, MORE Electric and Power Corp. Telicphil, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as members.

The main functions of the task force are:

-To coordinate with the respective utility companies (Telecom, Cable, and MORE Electric) for the swift and proper implementation of this Executive Order;

-To retrieve drop cables and wires that are inactive;

-To re-fix and re-bundle wires and cables that are sagging, lying low and dangling in order to straighten and arrange the same;

-To propose and recommend to the Sangguniang Panlungsod a comprehensive plan involving all stakeholders for the outlining and laying out of posts and wiring within the territorial jurisdiction of Iloilo City;

-To act in accordance with and adhere to proper engineering standards.
