BACOLOD City – A 17-year-old boy died while his companion was in critical condition after their motorcycle collided with a pick-up truck at Barangay Salvacion, Murcia, Negros Occidental last Sunday.

The name of the fatality was withheld. The wounded was identified as Aron Sarabia, 18, of Barangay San Miguel.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Ryan Bandiola, traffic investigator of Murcia Municipal Police Station, said the motorcycle driven by the minor was traversing a curved part of the road when it overlapped to the opposite lane which led to the collision.

Bandiola said the victims were on their way to the town proper while the pick-up truck driven by a 34-year-old man was on its way to San Carlos City when the accident happened.

Citing the impact, Bandiola said the motorcycle might be speeding.

Bandiola said the victims’ friends chased to stop them, but they failed to catch up with them.

The victims had a drinking session that night, based on the statement of their friends. They were even advised by their companions not to leave their house anymore, but they insisted on going home.

The minor was declared dead on arrival at a hospital, while Sarabia is confined at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here.

Both were not wearing helmets, according to Bandiola.

Bandiola said the pick-up truck driver and his three co-workers were unharmed.

He said that both parties have already met for an amicable settlement.
