Two brothers were wounded after being shot by their neighbor on the evening of September 8 during a wake in Molo, Iloilo City.
The victims were identified as Jessie Nacase, 37, and Juluis Nacase, 42, both residents of Barangay East Baluarte, Molo, Iloilo City.
Jessie sustained four gunshot wounds: one to the left side of his head, both legs, and his left waist. Juluis suffered two gunshot wounds to his stomach.
Police reports indicated that the victims and the suspect, 49-year-old Larry Sumbang, had longstanding grudges.
On Saturday, Sumbang reportedly had an argument with the victims’ nephew, Rodmar Nacase.
The Nacase brothers also accused Sumbang, a retired soldier, of previously threatening them.
At around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, the suspect was allegedly talking to a neighbor on a footpath when Jessie approached him aggressively.
Police reported that Jessie punched Sumbang in the face, causing him to fall to the pavement. Juluis then attempted to stab the suspect, but Sumbang managed to fend off the attack.
In self-defense, Sumbang allegedly pulled out a firearm of an unknown caliber and shot both victims several times.
Sumbang fled the scene immediately but voluntarily surrendered two hours later. He sustained a wound to his stomach and a hematoma on his right eye.
The victims were rushed to Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital for treatment.
