BACOLOD City – Two motorcycle riders were killed, while two others were injured in a road accident at Sitio Kahilwayan, Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental Sunday night.

Police identified the fatalities as motorcycle driver Janu Yunsal, 23; and his companion Chrismichu David, 26, both residents of Barangay Palayog.

Wounded were Johnester Guarin, 26, driver of another motorcycle, and his companion Cleo David, 25, a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman, both residents of Barangay Palayog according to the police.

Major John Ganzon, town police chief, said both motorcycles were reportedly speeding when Yunsal’s motorcycle crashed into the rear part of a truck parked on the roadside due to an alleged mechanical trouble.

Yunsal and Chrismichu were thrown off the bike and were allegedly run over by the motorcycle driven by Guarin, the police chief added.

All of them were taken to a hospital in Hinigaran where Yunsal and Chrismichu were declared dead on arrival due to severe head injuries.

Guarin and Cleo were taken to a hospital here.

Ganzon said truck driver Jumar Esparagoza, 34, of La Castellana town, set up an early warning device but he was surprised when he suddenly heard a crashing noise a few minutes after he parked the vehicle.

All motorcycle riders were not wearing helmets, Ganzon said, adding that they came from Bago City.

Ganzon said Esparagoza was placed under police custody for further investigation, but was released the following day after the lapse of the 18-hour reglementary detention period.

Ganzon said they are waiting for the victims’ families’ decision on the filing of charges.
