SAN JOSE, Antique – Barangay Service Point Officers (BSPOs) in San Jose, Antique convened with the Provincial Population Office and Provincial Health Office for an orientation on vaccination against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a media release of the Provincial Information Office, Provincial Population Officer Primo Ogatis said the activity aimed at increasing the people’s level of awareness on the government’s current inoculation program.

“We need to orient the 650 BSPOs in the province of Antique regarding the vaccination to raise public awareness on what is going with the provincial government’s vaccination program,” Ogatis said.

Health Education and Promotion Officer II Irene Duldoco, on the other hand, relayed the critical role of BSPOs who also act as members of Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERTs).

Duldoco cited these BSPOs belonged to the vaccination priority group A1.5 as frontliners who help ensure the effective local management and response on COVID-19 in the communities.

“If you won’t get the vaccine, it might be you are a COVID carrier to your clients, or you’ll get infected with the virus easily. We need to ensure that our health system will continuously care for all of us. We are frontline health workers, and we are called as last man standing,” she emphasized during the orientation.

She further reminded the participants of the need to achieve the 70 percent herd immunity for protection against the virus so that people could resume to their normal lives.

Meanwhile, Eulanda Antona, Federation President of BSPO in the province expressed her enthusiasm on the lessons imparted, particularly on the importance of vaccine in the community.

“Natun-an ko man nga dapat ma-engganyo ko ang tagsa ka pumuluyo sa barangay namun nga magpabakuna. Bahol gid ang bulig na kadya sa amun barangay kay ma hagan-hagan ang kaso ka COVID (I have learned how to influence my fellow residents to be vaccinated. This is a big help in our barangay to lessen the cases of COVID),” Antona shared. (PIA)
