In line with the ongoing voter registration period which commenced on February 12 and will continue until September 30, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that voter education seminars will also be held in Iloilo.

The seminars are aimed to foster an understanding of voters’ rights and responsibilities.

Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco underscored their objective to educate citizens on the electoral process and encourage active participation in shaping the nation’s future.

“The Comelec will conduct the Voter Education and Registration Fair in all 17 regions nationwide during the whole voter registration period, in which a voter education and information seminar will be held simultaneously in the same venue with the satellite or mall registration,” Laudiangco said.

In the Visayas, the seminars would be held in Negros Occidental for Western Visayas; Cebu for Central Visayas; and Leyte for Eastern Visayas.

Meanwhile, the Iloilo City Comelec Election Assistant II Jonathan Sayno confirmed the readiness of their office on the second floor of Angeles Arcade Building, Mabini St., Iloilo City, to facilitate the registration process.

Sayno said that the registration will initially take place at their office while the satellite registration venues, including at malls, will soon be announced to cater to more registrants.

Applicants are reminded to bring a valid government-issued identification card and an accomplished registration form to expedite the process.

The Comelec reiterated that they will not accept company-issued IDs. Applicants are encouraged to visit Comelec’s website at https://comelec.gov.ph or the office of the city or municipal election officer for further assistance.

Additionally, the Comelec recently launched the Register Anywhere Program (RAP), which allows qualified Filipinos to register as voters anywhere nationwide without returning to their place of origin.

On February 21, to mark National Voters’ Day, the city and province will celebrate with special initiatives aimed at increasing voter participation, whereas all city and municipal election officers will be present at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) Cultural Center in La Paz district to receive applications from students and city workers.
