WV Coast Guard head promoted to higher rank

BACOLOD City – Captain Edgar Ybañez, commander of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District Western Visayas, was among the four PCG officials who were promoted by President Rodrigo Duterte to higher ranks last Tuesday.

Ybañez was promoted to Commodore, based on the recommendation of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade.

Ybañez who is from Quezon City was part of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1993.

His assignment in the region came after he served as commander of the PCG District Northeastern Luzon and deputy commander of the Coast Guard Surface Support Force.

Prior to that, he was also assigned as station commander of PCG stations here, in Caticlan, and Dumaguit in Aklan, as well as in Basco, Batanes.

He is a holder of ‘Command at Sea Badge’ for serving as commanding officer of three PCG capital ships.

He also performed various duties at the Coast Guard Marine Environmental Protection Command, Coast Guard Education, Training, and Doctrine Command, and the PCG nationa headquarters.

Aside from him, also promoted to Commodores were Captains Ramon Lopez, Joeven Fabul, and Mitzie Silva-Campo.

The new one-star generals will take oath before DOTr Secretary Tugade next week.
