BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that 22 of the 61 barangays here are now free of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

This means not a single COVID-19 case was reported in these barangays.

In an interview with Aksyon Radyo Sunday, Leonardia said that most of the COVID-19 free barangays are numbered barangays.

Also, 26,056 residents here underwent swab test, which represents five percent of the city’s population.

Latest data showed that Bacolod has 4,689 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases – 4,131 recoveries, 119 deaths, and 439 active cases.

Earlier, Inter-Agency Task Force chief implementer for the Visayas Melquiades Feliciano said that the city is ready for the “New Normal” by end of this month.

Feliciano said that the number of COVID cases in the city is continuously decreasing.

From a high of 1,176 active cases in the last week of September, the number is now down to 439.

Feliciano said this is due to the establishment of the Emergency Operations Center of the city government which has put in place “intervention programs” to contain the spread of the virus.
