6 Pontevedra villages are drug-cleared

PONTEVEDRA, Capiz – Six barangays here have been declared by the Regional Oversight Committee as free of illegal drugs.

These barangays, which were earlier identified as drug-affected, are Agbanog, Ameligan, San Pedro, Guba, Intongcan and Jolongajog.

The declaration came after the barangays complied with the guidelines set by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The Regional Oversight Committee is composed of the PDEA, Department of Health, Philippine National Police and Department of the Interior and Local Government.

“This milestone was made possible because of the cooperation and support of the local government unit of Pontevedra led by Mayor Esteban Evan E. Contreras, Rural health Unit, our local DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government), respective Barangay Drug Abuse Council, and our cops,” said Pontevedra police chief Christopher Candelario.

Meanwhile, seven more barangays in the town are poised to be declared drug-free after submitting the requirements.

Of the seven villages, five are unaffected and the two are drug-affected areas.

Pontevedra is composed of 26 barangays, 21 of which were identified as affected and five were un-affected.
