BACOLOD City – Police Major Reynante Jomocan, head of Police Station 4 here, warned traders against those persons who use the New People’s Army (NPA) to extort money.
Jomocan issued the warning after two Filipino-Chinese businessmen reported to the police last Dec 4 that an unidentified man called and introduced himself as a member of the NPA and demanded money.
Jomocan said that the caller first sent a text message to the victims before calling. The suspect later called the second victim.
“The caller reached the two victims through the contact numbers posted publicly for their business transactions. Parang modus kasi nila yan. Mag name drop sila to ask money from businessmen here,” he added.
Jomocan said that they tried calling the number used by the suspect but it cannot be reached anymore.
He reminded businessmen to never entertain similar calls and immediately seek help from the police.
