BACOLOD City – Police have a person of interest in the killing of a former barangay watchman or tanod and his nine-year-old adopted son at Abada Escay, Barangay Vista Alegre here yesterday.

The victims were Aurelio Rull, 73, while police withheld the name of his adopted son, who later passed away at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here.

Police Captain Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 7, said Rull was found lifeless in their bedroom around 4 a.m. with a dagger to his neck, while the kid suffered a stab wound on the head.

Bonilla said they have yet to determine the number of stab wounds that the victims suffered.

Rull was a former watchman in Barangay 8, before he transferred to a relocation site in Barangay Vista Alegre.

Bonilla said the victims’ valuables were intact at home, dismissing the robbery angle.

“Gulpi man lang daw gin sulod sila sang suspetsado,” he added.

However, Bonilla said that Rull’s house was reportedly raided by the police twice for illegal drugs this year, but the victim had no record for any illegal drug activity with the police.

Bonilla said they are still investigating the incident to establish the real motive. “Indi pa ta ka hambal for now unless may development na sa case,” he added.

Bonilla said they will also check with the neighbors or Rull’s family if he had threats prior to the attack.

“Ang bata indi man legal na adopted niya pero dira na ga tulog sa iya since baby pa kay neighbors niya man lang ang parents sina,” the station commander added.
