A young man who is behind bars for a deadly road mishap on Feb 14, 2019 was again arrested for another criminal charge.

A warrant of arrest was served against 20-year-old Aries Severo for a carnapping case morning of Oct 4.

Severo, a resident of Barangay Bolong Este, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, has been in detention at the Iloilo Provincial Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan, Iloilo, after he figured in a road accident that killed four people on Feb. 14, 2019.

Members of Sta. Barbara Police Station served the warrant against Severo for carnapping in Criminal Case No. 20-85372.

A P300,000 bail was set for his temporary liberty.

Police Major Raymond Celoso, Sta. Barbara police chief, said the case was filed by the owner of the Hyundai Tucson that figured in the road incident in Barangay Lanag, Sta. Barbara.

Severo was a mechanic at his father’s auto shop where the Tucson was being serviced. He appeared to have driven off with the vehicle without the owner’s knowledge.

The incident killed Jero Poll Souribio and his live-in partner Janice Surmieda, 21, and Surmieda’s brothers, 25-year old Romel and 19-year old Eljay.

When the incident happened, Severo was also injured but his two companions fled.

According to reports, the tricycle was navigating Barangay Lanag around 1:30 a.m. when the collision happened.

Severo allegedly came from their house and was supposed to bring two friends home when the incident happened.

Investigation showed that Severo overtook another tricycle, encroached the opposite lane, and hit the victims’ tricycle which was on the opposite lane.

Witnesses claimed that Severo was driving at 160 kilometers per hour.

Due to the impact, the tricycle driver and his three passengers were thrown off the three-wheeled vehicle.

Janice and Romel were declared dead on arrival at the hospital while Souribio died a few hours later.

Eljay died at 7:00 a.m. while being treated at West Visayas State University Medical Center.
