The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a crucial road upgrade in Barangay Tagsing, Leon, Iloilo, enhancing transportation for local farmers and residents.

Implemented by the Iloilo 4th District Engineering Office, the PHP 4.941-million project converted a 319.45-linear meter earth road into a 4-meter wide, two-lane Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) road.

The upgrade includes slope protection and lined canals to promote motorist safety and road durability.

Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel of the DPWH-6 reported the project will bolster the area’s economy by providing a reliable road network for the mobility of people and goods.

“This road improvement contributes significantly to local economic development, increasing access to services and economic opportunities, thereby enhancing the quality of life,” said RD Oropel.

He also emphasized the road’s resilience, ensuring year-round connectivity to the town proper, even during adverse weather conditions.

“They will no longer struggle muddy when wet, and dusty when dry road they used to experience with the existing earth road, thus, making them easier to traverse the road going to the market and other government and private establishments in the town,” Oropel stressed

Oropel further said the concrete road will facilitate better access and connectivity, hence basic government social, medical and other services can reach even the far-flung areas in the town.

According to District Engineer Mario G. Soriano, the new pavement cuts across extensive agricultural land, promising substantial benefits for crop and livestock producers.

“With this concrete road, our farmers can now more efficiently transport their products to market, potentially improving their economic well-being,” DE Soriano remarked.

“With this concrete road, we are hopeful that our farmers can easily transport their products from farms to the market, which could eventually help alleviate their economic condition,” he added.

DPWH said it is committed to continuing the development of important roadworks that connect rural areas to main roads, facilitating quicker transportation and easier access to essential government services.
