Who would have thought that a group of domestic helpers working in Hong Kong will collectively have a love for the sport of cricket?

The SCC Divas team, an all-Filipino cricket team composed of domestic helpers has been recently making waves and just joined the Women’s Premier League, a three-game series played by the top 30 teams in Hong Kong.

One of the members of the team, Jennifer Alumbro, confirmed that all of them met not in the cricket game itself, but playing softball and baseball. Alongside squad founder Josie Treyes, both of them organized the group from their Sunday sessions just playing baseball games as their means of relieving stress. Their transition from softball to cricket wasn’t that hard as the game is played with the same mechanics but a different set of rules are being used.

“Committed talaga ang players, devoted sa team. Kasi di kami nagre-represent sa ano lang na league, kasali kami sa buong Hong Kong na league,” said Treyes.

Treyes is not only one of the main founders of the club but also their team captain and was responsible for teaching the members the fundamentals of cricket together with The Laws of Cricket.

Currently, the Divas are doing well in the Hong Kong league and they even have two more sister clubs competing in the lower-tier of the league. With the ongoing development of what the Divas have accomplished in Hong Kong, expect a promising future that lies ahead for them.
