PNP-ACG and GCash advocate for enhanced cybersecurity at AngelNet Summit

As the digital landscape expands, so does the need for robust cybersecurity, particularly for women and children.

Recognizing this, GCash, the Philippines’ leading finance app, has reaffirmed its commitment to online safety by participating in the AngelNet Summit 2024. The partnership with the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) seeks to shield millions of Filipinos from cyber threats.

The summit, themed “AngelNetwork and the Cybersquad, Together for Online Safety,” was held at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

It convened PNP leaders, GCash officials, and representatives from various organizations to address cyber harassment, abuse, and violence.

GCash’s engagement in this summit is part of a broader initiative, including COP and GBOSH programs like AlengPulis and the CyberSquad.

Atty. Maricor Alvarez-Adriano, Chief Legal Officer of GCash, emphasized the imperative of public-private partnerships to enhance the safety of online spaces and financial technology platforms.

The event was notably attended by Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking assistant secretary Jose Dominic F. Clavano IV and drew stakeholders from across the government and civil society, including 15 student delegates from across the nation.

“We are deeply honored to be a part of this initiative with our key partners from the PNP. Together, we aim to provide a safer, worry-free online space and transaction for all,” expressed Atty. Alvarez-Adriano, highlighting GCash’s dedication to trust and security.

In its pursuit of a more secure digital environment, GCash introduced DoubleSafe, a facial recognition security feature, in its #GSafeTayo campaign last year. The app leverages AI and machine learning to enhance user experience and maintain a scalable platform. In partnership with law enforcement agencies such as the PNP-ACG, NBI, and CICC, GCash has successfully thwarted 4.1 million fraudulent accounts from its platform in 2023 alone.

GCash’s efforts extend to partnerships with industry bodies like MAP and continuous collaborations with BSP and NPC to align with the latest consumer and data protection regulations.

Underlining its mission of “Finance for All,” GCash, together with its partners, is fortifying trust and security protocols to counteract cyber threats, ensuring a protected and progressive digital future for every Filipino.
