Two dead, one hurt in shootings

BACOLOD City – Two persons were dead while another was injured in separate shooting incidents in Negros Occidental in the past three days.

In Calatrava town, Junrel Pahayahay, 35, of Barangay Marcelo was shot dead by four unidentified armed persons at the said village last Friday.

Pahayahay was attending a pre-wedding celebration of his neighbor when the perpetrators arrived around 8:30 pm.

Two of the four suspects shot the victim, while two others served as lookout.

Pahayahay succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, while 28-year-old Jenifer Catalugo was injured when she was also hit by a bullet in her abdomen.

The assailants fled.

Police recovered from the scene four fired cartridges of .45-caliber ammunition, an ammunition cartridge of unidentified caliber, and a dud bullet of an M16 rifle.

In Sipalay City, Richard Gonzaga, 39, of Barangay San Jose, a security guard, was found dead at the said village last Saturday.

Investigation showed that Gonzaga was on duty on Friday night when some residents heard a gunshot in the area.

Early the following day, the victim’s brother-in-law went to the area for work, and found the lifeless Gonzaga outside the guardhouse.

The victim succumbed to gunshot wounds in the head and left shoulder, police records showed.

Investigation on both incidents are ongoing.
