W. Visayas logs 5,000 recoveries in a week

The number of persons who survived COVID-19 in Region 6 is on the rise after more than 5,000 recoveries were recorded in the past week, according to data from Department of Health Western Visayas (DOH-6).

From June 18 to June 24, the region logged 5,002 recoveries with record-high numbers on June 22 to June 24.

The highest number of recoveries in a day was on Thursday (June 24) with 1,067.

The number of recoveries for the rest of the week were: June 18 (551), June 19 (183), June 20 (405), June 21 (813), June 22 (938), and June 23 (1,007).

The significant increase in the number of recoveries in Western Visayas pushed the regional total to 49,825 as of June 24.

But the number of COVID-19 cases in the region, including deaths, is still increasing.

On Thursday, 738 new cases were recorded including 16 deaths.

From June 18-24, the region recorded 84 deaths, bringing the regional total to 1,420 reported deaths.

Meanwhile, the cumulative COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas climbed to 62,511 with 11,243 active cases.

Out of the more than 11,000 active cases, 59.50% are asymptomatic; 35.40% exhibit mild symptoms; 2.38 percent have moderate symptoms; 2.26% are severe and 0.05% are critical.

 

VACCINATION

Meanwhile, more than 5,000 Ilonggos have availed of free COVID-19 vaccines in the massive vaccination drive conducted by the Iloilo City government on June 24, 2021.

As of 2 p.m. Thursday, a total of 5,231 individuals received their Covid-19 jabs, based on data from the Iloilo City Vax Team.

Four vaccination areas were designated by the city government to cater to residents who were scheduled to avail of the vaccines.

The four vaccination areas are the Iloilo Convention Center (ICON), Central Philippine University (CPU), University of San Agustin (USA), and Ateneo de Iloilo-Santa Maria Catholic School.

The vaccinees include 1,370 who were inoculated at ICON, 1,440 at USA, 1,510 at CPU and 911 at Ateneo.

Each of the vaccination areas had humidifiers, wheelchairs, and standby ambulances in case of emergencies.

Mayor Jerry Treñas recently appealed for additional vaccine allocation as it emphasized the capability of the city to handle vaccines and conduct massive vaccination.

In response, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque and National Task Force Against Covid-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez have promised the mayor that they will visit the metro next week to bring additional vaccines and medical equipment.

According to the mayor, the two officials assured him that they will bring 50,000 Sinovac vaccines during their visit. (ERS)
