BACOLOD CITY – A village chief from Purok Pasil, Barangay Tabao Baybay, San Enrique, Negros Occidental was arrested last Thursday for causing alarm and scandal.

Police Captain Leo Estopa, the town police chief, reported that the 49-year-old barangay official of Bagonawa engaged in a drinking session with his family members during a farewell party for his sister, an overseas Filipino worker (OFW), on Wednesday night.

“The following day, he invited his family members to join him again in a drinking session, but they declined,” Estopa said.

This refusal irked the village chief, leading to a serious misunderstanding with his family members.

According to Estopa, the village chief allegedly shouted at his 46-year-old sister and destroyed the screen door of her house.

The barangay official was subsequently arrested and later released from police custody, as the family chose not to press charges against him.

“The misunderstanding was due to the barangay captain’s drunkenness,” Estopa explained.
