Empowering nursing education: the emerging clinical nursing education series

In an era of rapid advancements in healthcare, nursing professionals must stay at the forefront of knowledge and expertise to provide optimal patient care.

Recognizing this, the Emerging Clinical Nursing Education Series (ECNES) has emerged as a transformative initiative, delivering quality training to nurses in Region 6 in Eastern Visayas.

The ECNES provides a learning experience that empowers nurses to enhance their teaching skills and expand their knowledge through a curriculum covering a wide range of relevant topics, including clinical education in nursing,  adult learning theories and principles, Competency Development and Evaluation for Nurses, Teaching in the Wards and Clinical Area.

Mary Gilel Palma, a registered nurse (RN) who is currently working in a public hospital, shares her experience: “The ECNES has been an invaluable learning journey for me. The webinars have provided me with practical strategies and innovative approaches to engage and motivate learners in the clinical setting. I feel more confident and equipped to create meaningful learning experiences for my co-staff members.”

Mr. Rozz Pancho, an Australian-based nursing education expert and ECNES Resource Speaker, said, “The ECNES is a great start to reach out and extend my support to all our Filipino nurses, encouraging them to rethink and appreciate the importance of education in nursing and how it is essential for the future growth of our nurses. The ECNES offered Filipino nurses a platform to discuss, explore, and understand the importance of clinical education in their own practice.”

Interestingly, the ECNES is a part of the Caring for Goodness program, a joint initiative of the Filipino Nursing Group, a global organization of the Filipino Nursing Diaspora (FiND) Network based in Australia, and Shearwater Health, a leading global healthcare technology solutions provider headquartered in Tennessee, with major operating hubs in the Philippines.

This partnership aims to support and nurture the growth of nurse, ensuring they are equipped with the latest teaching knowledge and skills to deliver quality patient care in an ever-changing healthcare landscape.

Executive Director of Filipino Nursing Diaspora (FiND) Network’s Jerome Babate said “ECNES aligns perfectly with our mission to advance nursing excellence. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to empowering Filipino nurses and enhancing the quality of patient care.

The partnership with Shearwater Health has enabled us to bring quality training to our participants. The ECNES has met our expectations, providing a platform for collaboration and learning that will undoubtedly shape the future of nursing education in Region 6 and, hopefully, throughout the country.”

Moreover, the ECNES aims to leave a lasting impact on the nursing community by co-developing a Clinical Nursing Education (CNE) toolkit.

This toolkit will be a valuable resource for hospitals and nurses across the Philippines, providing evidence-based teaching strategies, practical tools, and educational materials. By involving participants in the development process, the toolkit ensures that it is tailored to the specific needs and challenges nurses face in the local context.

The co-development of the CNE toolkit reflects the commitment of the ECNES to empower nurses with the necessary resources to excel in their roles as educators. It acknowledges the importance of accessible and standardized educational materials that promote best practices in clinical teaching.

This toolkit will not only benefit the current participants. Still, it will also have a far-reaching impact on the broader nursing community in the Philippines, ultimately enhancing patient care and outcomes.

Delivered in collaboration with St. Anthony’s College of Antique and the Association of Nursing Service Administrators of the Philippines (ANSAP) Region 6, the ECNES has successfully completed four out of eight modules, facilitated by esteemed nursing education experts from Australia and the United States.

The ECNES has been recognized by the Philippines’ Board of Nursing and awarded 22 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units.

This recognition underscores the program’s commitment to providing quality educational content and supporting the professional growth of participants. Upon completing the entire series, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion, further validating their commitment to advancing their clinical teaching abilities.
